Southeastern Connecticut is home to some of the most scenic and welcoming vineyards in New England. Rolling hills laced with vines, charming tasting rooms, and coastal breezes make this region a perfect destination for wine lovers looking to relax and explore. Whether you're planning a girls’ day, celebrating a special occasion, or simply looking for a fun weekend activity, these vineyards offer unforgettable experiences, beautiful views, and of course—great wine. Here are six beautiful vineyards I love visiting, and they're all here in southeastern Connecticut. 1. Stonington Vineyards
A cornerstone of the Connecticut wine scene, and the 2nd oldest vineyard in the state, Stonington Vineyards has been producing award-winning wines for decades. The vineyard offers sweeping views of the surrounding countryside and a welcoming tasting room experience. They lovingly refer to their Seaport White as a "porch pounder" because it's the perfect wine to drink while chilling with your friends on the porch. (This is where you'll find me any given weekend ... when I'm not working!) 2. Saltwater Farm Vineyard Set on the site of a former World War II-era airstrip, Saltwater Farm Vineyard is one of the most unique winery settings in Connecticut. The modern glass tasting room overlooks the vineyards and nearby tidal marshes, creating a stunning backdrop for wine tastings. Guests love the crisp whites and relaxed atmosphere, and the property offers plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the coastal scenery. 3. Jonathan Edwards Winery One of the region’s most well-known wineries, Jonathan Edwards Winery is beloved for its beautiful stone buildings, spacious grounds, and consistently excellent wines. Visitors can enjoy tastings in the elegant tasting room or relax outdoors among the vines. It’s a wonderful spot for a leisurely afternoon with friends. 4. Maugle Sierra Vineyards Maugle Sierra Vineyards offers a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that feels like a hidden gem in the Connecticut countryside. The tasting room overlooks beautiful rolling vineyards, making it a perfect place to unwind. Guests often enjoy live music events and a laid-back environment that encourages lingering over a glass of wine. 5. Preston Ridge Vineyard Preston Ridge Vineyard is known for its hilltop views and inviting outdoor spaces. The vineyard produces a variety of wines and also offers beer, making it a fun destination for mixed groups. Visitors love the scenic setting and the welcoming community vibe. For a girl who likes sweet wines (that's me), it has the sweetest wines in the area. 6. Kingdom of the Hawk Vineyard One of the newer vineyards in the region, Kingdom of the Hawk Vineyard combines rustic charm with beautiful countryside views. The property is known for its relaxed setting and friendly staff, making it a great stop for both first-time visitors and experienced wine lovers. The Easiest Way to Visit Connecticut Vineyards Exploring multiple vineyards in one day is a wonderful way to experience the region—but coordinating transportation and planning winery stops can take some effort. That’s where Middle of the Vines comes in. Our small-group vineyard tours visit three of these beautiful wineries in one day, with tastings or beverages included at every stop. Guests also enjoy a picnic boxed lunch all while we handle the driving. It’s the easiest way to sip, savor, and safely explore southeastern Connecticut’s wine country. Plan Your Southeastern Connecticut Wine Adventure Whether you choose to explore on your own or join a guided tour, southeastern Connecticut’s vineyards offer a relaxing and memorable experience for wine lovers. Beautiful scenery, welcoming tasting rooms with fantastic staff, and locally crafted wines make this corner of Connecticut a hidden gem worth discovering.
